Travel and Tournament Baseball
PAA has continually evolved the travel baseball program in order to provide a healthy, competitive forum. The boys selected are the foundation of our Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth post-season District Tournament teams. These teams represent PAA in a more competitive setting throughout the tri-state area. The most qualified and committed players are selected in each age group to insure that we continue to field some of the most competitive teams in the area.
These teams will play 30-60 games during the season. Once the teams are selected, and if the weather permits, some managers may choose to hold workouts in the fall. Many teams begin to train indoors in January. In the spring, all boys will be required to participate in the PAA in-house program, which begins in April. The travel team schedule also begins in April, with the regular season running into June or July, depending on the age group. Some teams will also participate in open tournaments on weekends. District Tournament play begins in late June or early July. Continued success could lead teams beyond the State Tournament into the Regional Tournament, and ultimately the World Series, all of which are held in August.
Players are expected to attend practices and games as outlined by the individual team manager. As the above schedule illustrates, travel baseball is not generally compatible with other travel sports during the spring and summer and should be considered a full time commitment due to the heavy schedule demands. Our teams must have priority to ensure a competitive program. Likewise, due to the post-season tournament schedule, players must be available into early August. An extremely successful season could continue as far as late August.
Cost to play travel baseball ranges between $350 and $500 depending on the age. Many managers provide fundraising activities to defray some of the cost.
