Little League Grads Competing in This Years Postseason

Boys and girls between ages 13 (by April 30, 2017) and 18 who are interested in umpiring with PAA this coming season are invited to participate in our free umpire training classes.

A series of six (6) instructional classes, PLUS an additional night for testing will begin on February 8th. All sessions we be held on Thursday nights (except on-field session).  New umpires who want to be considered for games during the regular season are required to attend ALL sessions and returning umpires must attend 3 (test counts as 1) of the 6 sessions with the first night being mandatory. Testing for ALL umpires will take place during the 7th session on March 29th.

Each Session will feature rules review, on-field mechanics study and different guest speaker each session, who will bring their unique perspective, experiences, stories and knowledge of the game. Truly worth the price of admission, which is FREE!!

The class structure is as follows:

February 8th at Edgewood Elementary School:

    • MADATORY FOR ALL
    • 7:00 – 7:15; registration. Applies to all new and returning umpires.
    • 7:15 – 7:45; Overview of Arbiter game scheduling system. Applies to all new and returning umpires.  Parents are encouraged to attend this part of the class.
    • 7:45 – 9:00; Rules 1 &2 from the Official Rules of Baseball
    • Guest speaker – Doug Kimball

 February 22nd at Edgewood Elementary School:

    • 7:00 – 9:00; Rules 3 & 4 from the Official Rules of Baseball
    • On field mechanics review
    • Guest speaker – Anthony DeBonis from Tri-County Umpires

 March 1st at Edgewood Elementary School:

    • 7:00 – 9:00; Rule 5 from the Official Rules of Baseball
    • On field mechanics review
    • Guest speaker – Terry Henry – PIAA umpire and coordinator

 March 8th at Edgewood Elementary School:

    • 7:00 – 9:00; Rule 6 from the Official Rules of Baseball
    • On field mechanics review
    • Guest speaker – Ron Kaplan – H.S. baseball coach and instructor

 March 15th at Edgewood Elementary School:

    • 7:00 – 9:00; Rule 7 from the Official Rules of Baseball
    • On field mechanics review
    • Guest speaker – Dennis Helmstetter - NCAA D-3 World Series umpire

 March 22nd at Edgewood Elementary School:

    • 7:00 – 9:00; Rule 7 from the Official Rules of Baseball
    • On field mechanics review
    • Guest speaker – Len Limongelli – PAA Commissioner

 March 24th at Caiola Baseball Complex

    • OPTIONAL
    • Times TBA

 March 27th at Site TBD:

    • MANDATORY FOR ALL
    • 7:00 – 9:00; Rules Review
    • TESTING

Umpiring is a great way to learn the game from a new perspective while earning a few dollars.  Home plate umpires receive $20 per game and base umpires receive $15.
